Little things (I do) that make a BIG difference to start a new year freshly. Smells and all.

Whenever you hit the F5 button on your computer keyboard, think of January as doing the same thing; to the screen of your life. I don't make New Years resolutions or "intentions" anymore. I think I stopped because it felt so non-commital in language but also I like to be more organic with things. If there is any element of force or negative pressure, I just never seem to go forward.
Instead I've turned the first week of January into a ritual. And the theme of that week is:
“All stale things MUST GO". - me
This way of going about it has produced way better results and it's been something I stick to because of how good it feels. I get in a great rhythm that 1st week for the year and clear the way for all-around feelings of newness, freshness, sweetness...even a kind of serenity. Below is a general outline if you want to adopt for yourself!
START with your general every day environment(s) -
Changing your floorplan/move furniture around
Picking an accent wall in your bedroom to paint or wallpaper (P.S. currently waking up in a "forest" now and loving it! Pics below:)
Use/buy more mirrors to create better Feng Shui and "open" your space up
Hang up a new piece of handmade art (my leaf macrame is on the way!! Can't wait. Also I'm a sucker for handpainted chunky abstract art; the one from our bedroom is so special...see below)
Get a cordless vacuum. (Thank me later. It's less noisy too)
Buying a few un-killable indoor plants (Bamboo, Peace Lilly, Spider plant etc.)
Swapping your stainless steel teapot for a glass one (safer for your health!)
Selling and/or donating anything in your storage unit/closet that you haven't used in the last year & that can be easily replaced/costed you less than $100 (P.S. I do in general have a standard rule that if I buy something new, I get rid of something old)
Buy a new toothbrush, dish sponges, and shower curtain
Charge your phone in a different room at night & keep TVs *out* of the bedroom (SO many positive reasons to do this but overall you should keep your bedroom as a sacred space and un-plugged zone.)
Last but certainly not least ->
Repeat after me....new underwear is NEVER a bad idea.
And for my fellow #WorkFromHome colleagues, I know working remote can get a bit stale (and borderline skeevish for some). Here are a few things you can do to hit the "refresh" button during the workday:
- Take a shower during your lunch break
- Wear actual jeans in your rotation during the week
- Fresh sheets on your bed/rearranging your workspace regularly
- Pick some days that you can walk somewhere to grab lunch instead of getting it delivered/making at home
- Put on a full face of makeup for the work day, then treat yourself to an outing afterwards
- Put some fresh/high aroma flowers on your desk in a vase Sunday evenings to wake up to on Monday mornings
- Try to work on your patio terrace sometimes or keep a window open
- Set aside 15 *uninterrupted* minutes a day to blast a Spotify playlist that you can full-on dance too
- Clean your computer/headphones/mic/all equipment with organic non static wet wipes before starting your day
Wildcard: Buy a fish and keep his bowl on your desk in plain sight of your Zoom call's screen radius so that his life is a regular topic of discussion.
